Our New Koru Landing

Today it was the Koru Landing opening. Every class was there and the teachers. Today I am going to play puppies at the Koru Landing. I'm going to ask some of my friends if they want to play with me.                                                                     By Eva

 

 

Today at school the Koru Landing opened. I go there every day at playtime and I like going into the tree and playing with my friends. It is so much fun. Sometimes we pretend there is a tree hut. We play super heroes and we pretend that there are robbers.

Today we went to the Koru Landing. All of the class came because we had to say thank you. It looks cool. Nearly the whole school has played in it. I like it because of the leaf stage. I like everything that's there. It's cool.

Movement madness

On Thursday we went to Omata School for sports. First I did an obstacle course on the court. When you're doing the obstacle course you have to go through some cones and over some hurdles and jump in some hoops. Then balance a beanbag on your head. Then I went on a scooter board.
Then I did the next activity called bank and river. In the game a person says bank and you're meant to jump over a rope and if the person says river you have to jump backwards over the rope.

Magnificent Tivaevae Completed

We are all very proud of Hazel who has worked so hard to complete her own Tivaevae.
Hazel decided to make her own quilt after reading and researching about Pacific Tivaevae.
She began by sketching tropical leaves and flowers, which were then used for her quilt design. After the fabric was cut and sewn onto the background Hazel persevered to hand stitch details and then to sew on a border using the sewing machine.

What a fantastic achievement for a seven year old! Well done Hazel!

A Surprise Visitor

What a wonderful surprise we had this morning when Ronald McDonald came to visit!
He told a story that helped us remember to 'STOP, LOOK and LISTEN', before we cross the road.
Ronald reminded us to keep safe by wearing our helmets when riding our bikes and scooters.
We loved joining in when Roald sang 'Make it Click", the song that helps us use seat belts in the car to keep ourselves safe.

Wow! Don't we look fantastic all dressed up as 'music box dancers' and 'Jack in a boxes' ready for our School Production. We have been practising singing and dancing for the whole term and this week we are performing for a packed audience in the local hall.
Our Show, 'The Toy Box', was written, directed and choreographed by Ray Priest and Raeleen Luckin who are teachers and parents at our school. It tells the story of a young girl who finds herself in a fantasy toy world. She discovers where toys came from and how special they are.
The show involves our whole school of 298 students from aged 5 to 13 years. It is full of colourful costumes and talented singing, acting and dancing. We are all very excited and proud of our performance.
 Well done everyone and thank you to all who have helped with props and costumes!

Lavalava

Some of our class made small printing blocks with tropical leaf and flower designs which they printed onto fabric. It was great fun getting dressed up "Island Style" in our own hand made lavalava.

Tvaevae





Hazel discovered that tvaevae are hand stitched quilts made in the Pacific Islands.

She has designed her own tvaevae and is busy embroidering details onto the leaves and hibiscus flowers. 

We can't wait to see her finished work!
